Passion to Make a Difference

Jade2

Meet Jade, a Spirit Foundation Alumnus who matriculated from Wynberg Girls’ High School in 2014. Jade is currently in her second year at the University of the Western Cape studying Biotechnology. Jade reflects on her time as a Spirit Foundation Scholar and the resulting impact made on her life…

In 2010 the Spirit Foundation welcomed me into their diverse family of scholars, granting me the opportunity of an excellent high school education. For for this I am forever grateful. As a past scholar, the Spirit Foundation has played a vital role in my academic career. One of the highlights of my journey would definitely be the monthly or termly check ups with the Scholar Facilitators, not only academically but personally too. I will always cherish the memories made on the annual camps, the friendships built and the strong family bond of the scholars.

It has always been my passion to contribute and make a difference in the medical field. Whether it is caring for the sick or possibly coming up with a new drug to cure a disease. God-willing, once I have become established I would like to be able to give back by sponsoring a scholar with the hope of helping them achieve their goals. Archbishop Desmond Tutu once said, “Do your little bit of good where you are, it’s those bits of good that overwhelm the world”

To the current Spirit Foundation Scholars, the foundation see potential in you so grab the opportunity with both hands. As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” High school is the basis which determines the rest of your life. Take responsibility by setting goals, applying yourself, making sacrifices and putting in those hours to achieve.

I’d like to applaud all the Spirit Foundation Alumni for how far they have come and the great things that lie ahead as products of the foundation. As the future generation of South Africa, we need to build each other up, as well as build up the Spirit Foundation. I feel positive about the year ahead and the great things that are in store!

We wish Jade all the best for the continuation of her studies and are proud of her heart and vision to make a difference in the world. Go for it Jade!
